Weah under attack over Wenger, Le Roy SESAN

Weah under attack over Wenger, Le Roy

Liberian President and former  football  star George Weah is being criticised for his plan to award former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger the West African country’s highest honour, AP reports.

Weah, who was elected president of his country last year, plans to honor Wenger and another French  coach Claude Le Roy at a ceremony on Friday.

They both played crucial roles in Weah’s career.

Le Roy discovered Weah playing for a club in Cameroon in the late 1980s and recommended him to Wenger, then the coach of Monaco. Wenger took the advice, signed the Liberian and Weah went on to play for Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan, and became the first and still only African to win the FIFA World Player of the Year award in 1995.

Liberian sports minister  Zeogar Wilson said Wenger is to be given the Humane Order of African Redemption with the rank of Knight Grand Commander. Wenger is expected to attend Friday’s ceremony.

But Darius Dillon, an opposition politician, criticised Weah on Wednesday for using the nation’s highest honour and the office of the president to recognise people who only played a role in his “personal life.”

Over the past week, debate in Liberian newspapers and radio shows has mounted over whether the award – usually reserved for individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to Liberia – is right, according to AFP.

“This Knight Grand Commander of the Humane Order of African Redemption title, which the nation can bestow upon Liberian and non-Liberian alike, should not be about the personal connection between the President and Wenger or Le Roy,” Liberian newspaper Front Page Africa wrote in an editorial.

In the streets of Monrovia, some Liberians questioned the timing of such a ceremony, as the poor West African nation grapples with runaway inflation and a host of other economic woes.

“This honouring should not have been prioritised now,” said George Sackie, a 35-year-old teacher.

“Such titles should be given to someone who has served the nation in a distinguished manner,” said Daniel Neufville, an analyst at Ataryee community centre in Monrovia.

The government maintains, though, that both men helped Liberia through helping Weah.

“If Arsene Wenger and Le Roy had not exposed George Weah he would not have been the pride of an entire nation today,” said Andy Quamie, deputy minister of youths and sports.

“They helped Liberia in a distinguished way by helping someone who has become president of our nation… Consequently, Arsene Wenger and Claude Le Roy contributed highly to our nation’s pride.”

Weah was feared as a quick, rangy and versatile forward who was deadly from long range and devastating in front of goal.

In an interview with AFP in 2014, Weah described Wenger as “My coach, my mentor, my father figure.” Weah’s wife Clar is an ardent Arsenal fan.

After Weah was elected president in January, he invited Wenger to his inauguration, but the Frenchman, in what turned out to be his last season as Arsenal manager, was unable to attend.

Weah’s odyssey “is an unbelievable story,” Wenger added. “But it’s down to the fact that one thing that was common in George’s attitude is being strong mentally, absolutely unbelievably convinced that he has a mission.”

Transfer: Real Madrid take decision on Willian after Chelsea’s offer

Transfer: Real Madrid take decision on Willian after Chelsea’s offer

Spanish giants, Real Madrid have rejected an opportunity to sign Chelsea star, Willian this summer.

Willian has been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

According to Spanish outlet, Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea informed the Los Blancos that Willian will be available for £72million, But Real Madrid’s new manager, Julen Lopetegui wasn’t keen on outlaying the amount that the West London club wanted for the Brazilian international.

The report also claimed that Willian’s agent was additionally demanding a £9million payment, all of which proved too expensive for the 30-year-old.

However, Chelsea rejected three bids for Willian from Spanish outfit, Barcelona earlier this summer.

The Spain transfer window doesn’t close until August 31 meaning La Liga clubs can still sign players from the Premier League.

Chelsea signed Willian for £30million from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013, and he has gone on to make 239 appearances while scoring 44 goals.

Nigerians still in love with their oppressors – Ex-Ghana President, Jerry Rawlings

Nigerians still in love with their oppressors – Ex-Ghana President, Jerry Rawlings

His Excellency Former President Jerry Rawlings made a visit to Somalia. He was greeted by the Force Commander and Deputy UN Mission and he given a Guard of Honour at the Force HQ. Jerry John Rawlings, former Head of State and President of Ghana, has said that Nigerians are still in love with their ‘oppressors.’

He stated this during a closed-door meeting with 2019 presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, in Accra, Ghana.

A statement on Thursday by Rachel Onamusi-Kpiaisi, Director, PR, Media and Communications of the Sowore 2019 Campaign Organization, said both men spoke on a wide range of issues that bordered on youth and leadership in Africa, and about corruption and effective solutions to the menace.

The statement reads in part: “It was a closed-door meeting, but one of the things that came out of it was that Rawlings said, ‘Chief, you know your generation should be the ones in power but there is huge problem, things are gonna be tight!’

“Sowore quickly interrupted, asking if it was about ‘money politics’, after which Rawlings took a deep breath and after a long drawn silence, stated: ‘You know, Nigerians are still in love with their oppressors.’

“If there is a reason that our leaders buy up luxurious apartments and send their children to school in Ghana, it is thanks in no small part to the tireless, uncompromising work of JJ Rawlings.”

It added that before leaving Accra, Sowore also held a town hall session with Ghana-based Nigerians.

Peruzzi Allegedly Wrote The Hit Songs Fia, Amaka & Mind, Do You Think Is He Making The Right Moves?

Peruzzi Allegedly Wrote The Hit Songs Fia, Amaka & Mind, Do You Think Is He Making The Right Moves?

Whenever I think of the Nigerian music industry I always remember the Bible verse that says ‘the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence and only the violent take it by force’ such is our present industry.

For you to be an up and coming artist in Nigeria is one of the hardest jobs in the world. So, for you to have just a little break and a little attention from listeners is a huge deal, and one of the best ways to get that little break is affiliating with big acts or getting your self-signed to a huge label, that is what singer Peruzzi has and is doing right now.

Peruzzi is the man of the moment when it comes to rising in the Nigerian pop music industry, I know many of you would agree you love the man’s sound.

Despite all these love and attention, Peruzzi doesn’t have an actual hit song yet.

He dropped his debut single under DMW titled ‘Mata‘ there were mixed feelings because some people expected better.

Mata for me is a good song but definitely not good enough for an artist looking for a huge break.

We recently learned from our inside sources Peruzzi was the writer of the song ‘Mind‘ sang by the DMW artists, a song which for me is far better than the song he picked to be his debut single, we’ve also heard he has written more songs for the DMW group.

The biggest deal in all these is we have also been told Peruzzi is the songwriter of FIA which many would say is Davido‘s best song so far, I understand the business part of songwriting, I know he will very well get paid enough and also get a certain percentage of the royalties gotten from the song, but I think you as an artist looking to make a name for yourself should not sell or give up your best works for money.

The question now is 👇🏽

Is Peruzzi Really Making The Right Choices Right Now?

Relationship with Wizkid: I’ve grown thick skin to rumours — Tiwa Savage

By 9JATOPUPGIST

Mavin Records first lady,  Tiwa Savage has finally broken her silence on allegations that she was secretly dating Wizkid. The duo were rumoured to be dating after they were seen  getting  cozy in several pictures that surfaced online. Reacting to the rumours while speaking in an interview with Soundcity Radio 98.5fm, Tiwa Savage dispelled the rumour stating  “We are friends definitely.”

Tiwa said she ignored  the rumours. “ To be honest, I think I have been in this industry for a long time, I have grown a thick skin to rumours. Honestly rumours don’t bother me that much. I’m kinda used to it. Today is humblesmith, tomorrow it’s Wiz, it’s just what it is, it’s part of the job,” she said. The Mavin first lady also refused to be drawn into commenting on her failed marriage to estranged husband, Teebillz, saying  it was too sensitive to talk about it  on air.  “Marriage is a very sensitive matter that I would not want to delve into at this time. Whatever I say now might be taken by the other party in another way. Moreso, I respect TeeBlliz and our son. I don’t think it’s proper to discuss this matter on air,”

In recent times, the relationship between Wizkid and Tiwa Savage has dominated  social media  and made headlines in national dailies. It all started off as a rumour and later events kind of built a story behind their relationship.  Tiwa Savage has put all the speculations to rest.

Woman chops off husband’s genitals for favouring his second wife

Woman chops off husband’s genitals for favouring his second wife

A woman in northern India chopped off her husband’s genitals for allegedly neglecting her and staying with his second wife, police said on Thursday.

Yunus Ahmed, 45, has been admitted to a hospital in Uttar Pradesh state’s Muzaffarnagar district and the woman has been arrested, Area Police Chief, Anil Kaparwan said.

Ahmed married the second time with the consent of his wife in 2017 since they did not have a son.

Police said the two often had quarrels over his staying at the second wife’s residence.

“On Wednesday, their fight flared up and the woman, who repeatedly accused him of not spending time with her and ignoring her, cut his genitals using a knife,” Kaparwan said.

“He was rushed to the hospital in a serious condition and is receiving medical treatment,” Kaparwan said adding the woman was detained after the victim’s relatives filed a complaint with police.

The woman faces charges of causing grievous hurt and bodily harm and could face a maximum of 10 years in jail, police said.
